BROWNFIELD REDEVELOPMENT

BROWNFIELD REDEVELOPMENT

Brownfields are often abandoned, closed, or underutilized industrial or commercial properties. Examples include abandoned factories, underused warehouses, closed commercial buildings, dry cleaners or gas stations, and even vacant lots. According to the EPA, there are presently over one half million known brownfield sites in the United States. The actual number of brownfields is likely much larger.

Since the 1990’s, BCA has provided consulting services related to the reuse of environmentally impacted properties. We assist our clients with identifying environmental liabilities and developing solutions to facilitate redevelopment. BCA understands that each brownfield property is unique in both challenges and potential. We work with our clients to develop a strategy to maximize the benefits they realize through the redevelopment of a brownfield while minimizing the risk of liability.

Several loan and grant funding opportunities exist which may provide some or all of the financial assistance needed to investigate or cleanup brownfields. These funding sources are essential to triggering investment and stimulating economic growth. BCA is an industry leader in funding development and has helped fund hundreds of brownfield redevelopment projects.

BCA’s experience allows our clients to realize the benefits of redeveloping brownfields including: use of existing infrastructure, reduced site acquisition costs, elimination of blight, increased tax base, job creation, greenspace creation, and sustainable development among others.
